Design and Development of a Bio-Composite Single Screw Extrusion Machine

Vinod Kumar Biradar

Abstract

Bio-composites have attracted a lot of attention as environmentally beneficial substitutes for plastics derived from petroleum due to the rising demand for sustainable materials. A single screw extrusion machine specifically designed for processing bio-composite materials is presented in this paper. The study focuses on designing essential parts that are optimized to handle mixes of natural fiber-reinforced polymers, including the screw, barrel, die, and heating system. To guarantee effective mixing, consistent melting, and less fiber deterioration, special attention is paid to screw geometry, material feeding, and temperature control. In order to make the machine appropriate for small-scale companies and research applications, it was built using affordable materials and fabrication techniques. According to performance evaluation, the designed extruder processes bio-composite feedstocks reliably, with consistent throughput and increased mixing quality. By making it possible to produce bio-composite products efficiently and with less impact on the environment, this effort advances sustainable manufacturing technology.
