Role of Fundamental Duties in Strengthening Indian Democracy

Abstract

Fundamental Duties are the basic responsibilities that every Indian citizen should follow. These duties were added to the Indian Constitution through the 42nd Amendment Act, 1976 under Article 51A. Their main aim is to encourage patriotism, discipline, unity, and social responsibility among people. Along with enjoying Fundamental Rights, citizens must also perform duties toward the country. Fundamental Duties help in maintaining national unity, protecting public property, preserving culture, and promoting harmony in society. This paper explains the meaning, importance, challenges, and impact of Fundamental Duties in India. The study is based on information collected from books, articles, and constitutional sources. The paper concludes that proper awareness and education can help citizens perform their duties effectively and support the growth of democracy.
