Nidra (Sleep) and Svapna (Dreams) Analysis According To Ayurvedic Physiology - A Litrature Review

Abstract


Nidra or sleep is a periodic state of rest and is a phase that is required in each and every living being for fine tuning and maintenance of physiological functions of the body. According to Ayurveda role of Tama guna is important for sleep. A good sleep is responsible for the happiness, nourishment, development, strength, memory, potency of body and knowledge. A person who is lacking Nidra (sleep) will suffer from opposite qualities like grief, loss of libido, emaciation, loss of strength and improper understanding.

Nidra is considered to be one among the three important life sustaining factors of the body. Nidra along with proper food (Ahara) and following rules of celibacy (Brahmacharya) will aid good health, strength, growth and nourishment in the body. [1]
