Smart Facial Recognition Attendance System
Abstract
Face recognition technology is essential in almost every industry in this age of rapid digitalization. In order to automate the student attendance system, we have suggested software that will use facial recognition. Face recognition is quite helpful in many areas of our lives, particularly when it comes to security control systems. It is increasingly being used for a variety of purposes, including checking in at airports and unlocking phones. It operates by comparing real- time photographs of a person to a database of images. The Indian government is implementing one of the largest statewide automated facial recognition systems, calling it necessary to improve security in a nation that is woefully under policed, stop crime, and locate missing children. This development is significant in this field.Despite having lower accuracy than iris recognition, face recognition is neverthelessextensively used since it is non-intrusive and contactless. Face recognition can also be utilized for attendance tracking in offices, schools, and colleges in addition to its crucial applications. The goal of this software is to develop an automated attendance system that makes use of face recognition technology and would take the place of the current manual attendance system, which islabor-intensive and time-consuming to maintainand has drawbacks including proxy attendance and other issues. As a result there is an increase in this system’s demand. The 4 stages of this software are database building then face detectionalong with face recognition, and attendance updating. In order to create the database for the system images of students are used who belong to that class. The Haar-Cascade classifier and theLocal Binary Pattern Histogram technique are used, respectively, for face detection and recognition. Faces are picked up and recognized in the classroom's live-streamed footage. The facial images are then identified and categorized using the upgraded LBP, PCA, and algorithm that produced the best results. The acknowledged student's attendance will then be recorded and saved in the excel file. In this project, cloud computing will also be used. Utilizing Amazon RDS to manage our database and an AWS EC2 instance for compute tasks. Using a MySQL instance on Amazon RDS to store project databases RDS (Relational Database Services). A relational database service offered by Amazon Web Services is called Amazon Relational Database Service. It is a web service that operates in the "cloud" and makes it easier to set up, manage, and scale a relational database for use in applications.
