A Mixed-Method Study to Identify the Contributing Factors of Mode of Delivery And Birth Experience Among Primiparous Mothers in Maternal and Child Hospital Kalibadi Raipur Chhattisgarh

Dr. Shalini R. Peter

Abstract

This mixed-method study investigates the contributing factors of mode of delivery and birth experience among primiparous mothers at Maternal and Child Hospital Kalibadi, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The quantitative findings reveal that 73.4% of participants had moderate factors influencing their mode of delivery, with 43.3% having undergone normal vaginal delivery and 30% having cesarean delivery. The mode of delivery was significantly associated with age, religion, education of mother, occupation of husband, monthly income, gestational age, dietary pattern, and support system.

The qualitative analysis identified key themes influencing birth experience, including medical and clinical determinants, emotional and psychological experiences, family support and decision-making, and satisfaction and perception of outcome. The study highlights the importance of emotional support, family involvement, and quality care in shaping maternal satisfaction and birth experience. The findings suggest that healthcare providers should focus on providing personalized care, addressing emotional and psychological needs, and involving family members in the decision-making process.

The study concludes that primiparous mothers' birth experiences are influenced by a complex interplay of medical, emotional, and social factors. By understanding these factors, healthcare providers can develop targeted interventions to improve maternal satisfaction, reduce anxiety and stress, and promote positive birth experiences. The study's findings have implications for healthcare policy and practice, emphasizing the need for family-centered care, emotional support, and quality care in maternity services.
