Assess the level of knowledge regarding the Safe Delivery App among 7th-semester students at Chithra College of Nursing

Dr. Salini Sasikumar

Abstract

The Safe Delivery App (SDA) serves as a digital educational resource aimed at improving clinical skills related to maternal and newborn care. Familiarity with this application is important for nursing students, as it helps enhance their competency during clinical practice.

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge level of 7th-semester students at Chithra College of Nursing regarding the Safe Delivery App.

Methods: A descriptive research approach was adopted for the study. Seventh-semester B.Sc. Nursing students were chosen through purposive sampling. A systematic knowledge questionnaire that evaluated comprehension of the app's main features, clinical use, and emergency-related modules was used to collect data. For data analysis, both descriptive and inferential statistics were used.

Results: Findings revealed that the majority of participants had a moderate understanding of the Safe Delivery App, while only a few demonstrated a high level of knowledge. Lower performance was observed particularly in areas involving emergency procedures and decision-support functions.

Conclusion: The study highlights that although students possess an average level of awareness about the Safe Delivery App, additional training, demonstrations, and consistent use of digital maternal health tools are required. Incorporating SDA-based simulation activities into the curriculum may help further improve clinical skills.
