An Objectives, Epidemiology, Toxico Kinetics, Diagnosis, Differential Diagnosis, Treatment, Prognosis, Complications and Health Team Outcomes of Carbamazepine Toxicity
Abstract
In both pediatric and adult patients with focal epilepsy and other nonepileptic disorders, such as neuropathic pain, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, carbamazepine is frequently prescribed. Significant toxicity occurs at levels more than 40 mg/L (normal therapeutic ranges are 4 to 12 mg/L), and the first overdose was documented in 1967. Carbamazepine overdose is not uncommon. In 2014 there were 1880 approved cases of symptomatic carbamazepine toxicity according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers report. The genesis, presentation, assessment, therapy, and prevention of carbamazepine toxicity are explained in this activity, which also goes over the function of the interprofessional team in assessing and treating the illness.
