ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN JUDICIARY
Abstract
Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressively impacting India's legal and judicial systems as it grows in importance in contemporary society. A massive backlog of unresolved cases, a lack of judges, drawn-out legal processes, and delays in the administration of justice are just a few of the difficulties facing the Indian judiciary. Courts have begun implementing digital systems and AI-based technology to increase productivity and lessen workload. These days, legal research, document analysis, judgment translation, case management, and online dispute settlement all make use of AI capabilities. To facilitate judicial operations, the Supreme Court of India has implemented technologies like SUVAS (Supreme Court Vidhik Anuvaad Software) and SUPACE (Supreme Court Portal for Assistance in Court Efficiency)
By increasing accuracy, streamlining administrative tasks, and saving time, these solutions benefit judges and court employees. AI can also increase access to justice, particularly for those who live in rural places, through online hearings, e-filing systems, and virtual courts.
The application of AI in the judiciary raises a number of issues notwithstanding its benefits. Fairness and public confidence in the legal system may be impacted by problems including algorithmic bias, a lack of transparency, privacy issues, ethical dilemmas, and cybersecurity dangers. Machines cannot completely replace human logic, emotions, morals, and constitutional interpretation in judicial decisions.
The function of artificial intelligence in the Indian judiciary, as well as its uses, advantages, difficulties, and potential applications, are all examined in this study.
