Reimagining Parking: The Implications of Mixed-Use Development on Urban Mobility and Land Use

Ar. Seema Paulzagade

Abstract

Mixed-use development projects that integrate residential, commercial, and recreational functions within a single area have become a central strategy in sustainable urban planning. While these developments reduce reliance on private vehicles and promote walkability, they also pose new challenges and opportunities for parking design and management. As cities pursue sustainable growth and efficient land use, mixed-use developments have emerged as a powerful urban planning strategy. However, these developments also transform the way parking is planned, supplied, and managed. This paper explores how mixed-use development reshapes parking dynamics and urban mobility patterns, with implications for land use efficiency, policy reform, and sustainable transportation. The findings suggest that shared parking strategies, integrated mobility planning, and flexible regulations can reduce parking demand and encourage a shift toward more sustainable urban mobility.
