Emerging Technologies in Electrical Engineering: Transforming Modern Power Systems

Pravin G Patil

Abstract

Electrical engineering is undergoing rapid transformation driven by digitalization, renewable energy integration, intelligent control, and advanced power conversion technologies. Traditional centralized power systems are evolving into distributed, automated, and data-driven infrastructures capable of meeting modern energy demands efficiently and sustainably. Emerging technologies such as intelligent power networks, artificial intelligence, advanced semiconductor devices, energy storage systems, and electrified transportation are reshaping the design and operation of electrical systems. This paper presents an overview of major emerging technologies in electrical engineering, their operational principles, benefits, and technical challenges. The study also highlights future research directions essential for developing resilient and sustainable energy systems.
