Smart Security and Access Control Systems in Residential Interior Design Projects: A Case Study Approach

Reetu Suthar, Amit kumar Raval, Dr. Nidhi Gupta

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and digital automation technologies has transformed residential environments from conventional living spaces into intelligent ecosystems capable of responding to users’ safety, comfort, and lifestyle requirements. Traditionally, residential security systems were primarily dependent on mechanical locks, physical surveillance, and human monitoring. However, contemporary smart security systems integrate biometric authentication, intelligent surveillance, automated access control, sensor-based monitoring, and cloud-connected platforms to create responsive and adaptive residential environments. This review paper explores the integration of smart security and access control systems within residential interior design projects through a case study approach. The study examines how technological interventions influence spatial planning, material selection, user interaction, and aesthetic considerations in modern residential interiors. A qualitative review methodology is adopted by analysing existing research, technological frameworks, and representative residential applications. The paper evaluates major components including smart locks, biometric systems, video doorbells, motion sensors, AI-enabled cameras, integrated home automation platforms, and cybersecurity mechanisms. The study proposes an integrated design framework demonstrating how security technologies can be embedded within residential interiors without compromising visual quality and spatial experience. The findings indicate that successful implementation requires collaboration between interior designers, architects, technology consultants, and homeowners during early design stages. The paper highlights that future residential interior will increasingly depend on invisible, intelligent, and user-centred security systems where safety becomes an integrated design feature rather than an independent technological addition.
