Radhika. B. Vyas, G. E. Badgujar, S. P. Pawar

Abstract

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder that affects women’s reproductive health and is a common cause of infertility. Symptoms vary and may include irregular menstruation, hirsutism, alopecia, ovarian cysts, and metabolic issues. These symptoms result from hormonal imbalances, particularly elevated androgens, which disrupt ovulation. PCOS can be influenced by genetic, hormonal, environmental, and dietary factors, and may even begin during pregnancy. Excess androgen exposure in the womb may impact fetal development, potentially causing PCOS in female offspring. The condition's complex pathophysiology highlights the urgent need for further research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and fertility outcomes.

Objective: To assess the prevalence of PCOS among women of reproductive age, Highlighting the influence of diagnostic criteria and regional variability.
