Steplight: A Smart Motion-Activated Staircase Lighting Solution
Abstract
This project focuses on the design and implementation of an Automatic Staircase Lighting System that enhances both energy efficiency and safety in residential and commercial buildings. The system is built using an Arduino Uno microcontroller in conjunction with IR (Infrared) sensors placed at the entry and exit points of the staircase. When a person is detected, the IR sensors trigger the Arduino to activate the lights, ensuring visibility on the stairs. After a set duration or once movement ceases, the lights automatically turn off, reducing unnecessary power consumption. This project highlights the integration of basic electronic components and embedded programming to create a low-cost, automated solution that minimizes energy usage while providing reliable illumination.
